John qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1981 and became a leading UK tax specialist. In 1988, at the age of 30, John became a Tax Partner with Coopers & Lybrand (now PwC), a position he held until leaving as Head of Tax, Channel Islands in 1998. John initially developed international tax arbitrage structures but now is more involved with offshore structured investments and private equity. He manages his own private investment vehicle and is active in a number of sectors. John owns Black & Lizars, the largest independent optician in Scotland with 28 branches, co-founded the first fractional super yacht ownership company, YachtPlus and his expertise in the industry led to a significant shareholding in the Nautical Academy located at MB92 in Barcelona. John has been on the board of a number of start-up vehicles covering recycling, mobile entertainment, wi-max and his latest venture is the use of cross laminated timber in carbon free construction. John now lives in Grenada where he is spearheading a mixed use development project (tourism/medical/education).
